Special Interests & Expertise

Behavioural science & choice architecture

Behavioural design is integral to today's most engaging, broadly used platforms. They activate our reward systems, are habit-forming, and ultimately influence. My interest is in ethical use of behavioural design: strategies that create a better user experience and help users to be more (not less!) in control.

AI

AI is bringing about new ways to work and live. My interest is in learning how companies and individuals are using AI behind-the-scenes.

Human flourishing in a digital world

Meaningful products (to me) create a positive transformation where users are the driver of their experience. In healthcare and social services, we can captivate, direct attention, and support users in the most critical aspects of their lives.

Health in context

Our context - environment, socioeconomic status, relationships, and personal identity - play a role in shaping our health and well-being. In fact, a ZIP code has been shown to have greater impact on health, happiness, and life expectancy than genetic code 1.I believe effective digital healthcare products tailor to our context as humans.

My Story

Hey, I’m Jessica Dorazio. I’m a business development executive turned product designer with a focus on healthcare.

Over the past seven years, I’ve helped two award-winning healthcare startups to enter new markets, and design innovative digital products.

My backstory: I started my career on the business side at large tech companies (Microsoft and TELUS) while at university. After completing my BComm from the Sauder School of Business at The University of British Columbia, I started in business development in the market research technology industry at Vision Critical - now Alida.

In 2015, I made a leap. From the market research technology industry to healthcare. I feel fortunate to work in an area with significant problems to address.

The healthcare industry - despite its life-improving mission - lags in customer experience. As a designer, I see many opportunities to ethically apply tech and behavioural science to support those with chronic conditions, seniors, and underserved communities.

I’ve held leadership roles at healthcare startups, including Prizm Media and Ayogo Health, which was twice recognized as one of the most innovative companies globally.

Highlights from the projects I’ve been involved in have been working on the following challenges:

  • ✨ How can AI actually be used to make user experience more (not less) human?

  • 👥 How can we use technology to empower at-risk, vulnerable populations?

  • 🛋️ How can we improve at-home access to health products, and services for seniors with chronic illness?

  • 🎯 How can digital service delivery that applies principles of behaviour science improve goal setting?
